Carter Hoffman, PT, DPT, CSCS

Physical Therapist

Name: Carter Hoffman, PT, DPT, CSCS

Position: Physical Therapist

Certifications: Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (National Strength and Conditioning Association)

Describe some of your job duties: As a Physical Therapist, I have been trained in thoroughly and precisely analyzing my patients’ movement to identify movement faults that are the root cause of their injury, pain, or decreases in performance. It is my job to help my patients become more aware of these faults so they can identify and correct them in their daily lives; meanwhile, creating a detailed and personalized treatment plan that specifically addresses the needs of the individual. In conjunction with this treatment plan, my patient’s daily movement modifications will help them help themselves and return to their life’s interests as stronger and better moving humans than they were prior to seeking care!

What is your favorite thing about working at SPO? I am blown away at the dedication SPO has to developing and fostering their employee’s professional development. They help us become the best we can be in order to give our patients the very best care they can receive. Along with this, a tight-knit atmosphere and ease of communication amongst providers is something that is extremely hard to come by and sets them apart. It is all found at Stevens Point Orthopedics.

What is your greatest accomplishment at work? I thoroughly enjoy seeing the “light bulb” come on for my patients when they are able to link their symptoms to their movement. When a patient performs a task with proper movement patterns and is surprised when it isn’t painful I am often seen grinning ear to ear. This is a huge step and one that helps accelerate their improvement!

Hometown: Spring Green, WI

Amanda V.

Athletic Trainer

Name: Amanda Veara

Position: Athletic Trainer

Describe some of your job duties: I primarily work as a physician extender for Dr. Banovetz to help him care for his patients and educate them on their orthopedic conditions and treatment options. I am also the director of our Athletic Training Residency Program, a yearlong program for newly graduated athletic trainers to gain athletic training experience in the clinic setting and conduct research. During the school year, you will find me at Pacelli High School, on the football and soccer fields or at the ice rink, where I provide outreach athletic training coverage for their high school athletics.  I also serve as the clinic decorator and collaborate on the clinic’s marketing and social media.

Favorite thing about working at SPO? We're all one big family here in the clinic and we care for our patients just like they are part of our family.

What is your greatest accomplishment at work? Unfortunately, as an athletic trainer, I typically only see athletes after an injury has occurred. Often times their injuries are traumatic or season ending, but what I find most rewarding is being by their side from the moment the injury happens, through their recovery process and watching them get back to doing what they love. That’s my favorite, although I would prefer they never get injured in the first place!

Hometown: Waunakee, WI

Hobbies: I enjoy completing projects around the house, including repurposing old things into new things, crafting, gardening and working out in the yard, spending time with family and friends, exercising, cooking and reading.

At which store would you like to max-out your credit card? Tough question. It would probably be the hardware store, as I like to repurpose old furniture (and junk) to make it new again!

What is your favorite movie or TV series? I really enjoy the new TV show, A Million Little Things. This show messes with all my emotions and keeps me on edge. As for movies, I can’t ever pick just one because it really depends on my mood. I enjoy action and thriller (not scary) movies but someone else has to pick them to watch. (Netflix and I can’t ever agree on what to watch).  I do also like a good Nicholas Sparks book turned movie!

I ensure the surgeons’ patients are taken care of in regards to appointments, scheduling surgery, patient education and any other questions that may arise. In addition, I supervise the patient care staff team here, managing clinic work flows, and ensuring world class treatment for our patients.

Favorite thing about working at SPO: I love the friendly, family atmosphere and the emphasis on excellent patient customer service. The providers are all very understanding, caring and pleasant to work with.

Hometown: I grew up on a small Christian campground in Rome, NY.

What is your greatest accomplishment at work? With growth in any business there are expected “growing pains.” During such times, I have created workflows to ensure the smoothest transitions possible. The most recent instance occurred when the three new providers and four additional staff started while I was on maternity leave. While the transition wasn’t without some learning opportunities, I am proud of every team member.
