Physical Therapists
Position: Physical Therapist Certifications: Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (National Strength and Conditioning Association) Describe some of your job duties: As a Physical Therapist, I have been trained in thoroughly and precisely analyzing my patients’ movement to identify movement faults that are the root cause of their injury, pain, or decreases in performance. It is my job to help my patients become more aware of these faults so they can identify and correct them in their daily lives; meanwhile, creating a detailed and personalized treatment plan that specifically addresses the needs of the individual. What is your favorite thing about working at SPO? I am blown away at the dedication SPO has to developing and fostering their employee’s professional development. They help us become the best we can be in order to give our patients the very best care they can receive. Athletic Training & Strength Coaching
Position: Athletic Trainer Describe some of your job duties: I primarily work as a physician extender for Dr. Banovetz to help him care for his patients and educate them on their orthopedic conditions and treatment options. I am also the director of our Athletic Training Residency Program, a yearlong program for newly graduated athletic trainers to gain athletic training experience in the clinic setting and conduct research. During the school year, you will find me at Pacelli High School, on the football and soccer fields or at the ice rink, where I provide outreach athletic training coverage for their high school athletics. I also serve as the clinic decorator and collaborate on the clinic’s marketing and social media. Favorite thing about working at SPO? We’re all one big family here in the clinic and we care for our patients just like they are part of our family. What is your greatest accomplishment at work? Unfortunately, as an athletic trainer, I typically only see athletes after an injury has occurred. Often times their injuries are traumatic or season ending, but what I find most rewarding is being by their side from the moment the injury happens, through their recovery process and watching them get back to doing what they love. That’s my favorite, although I would prefer they never get injured in the first place! Hometown: Waunakee, WI Hobbies: I enjoy completing projects around the house, including repurposing old things into new things, crafting, gardening and working out in the yard, spending time with family and friends, exercising, cooking and reading. At which store would you like to max-out your credit card? Tough question. It would probably be the hardware store, as I like to repurpose old furniture (and junk) to make it new again! What is your favorite movie or TV series? I really enjoy the new TV show, A Million Little Things. This show messes with all my emotions and keeps me on edge. As for movies, I can’t ever pick just one because it really depends on my mood. I enjoy action and thriller (not scary) movies but someone else has to pick them to watch. (Netflix and I can’t ever agree on what to watch). I do also like a good Nicholas Sparks book turned movie! What is your favorite quote, and who said it? “It’s hard to beat a person who never gives up.” -Babe Ruth Position: Strength and Conditioning Coach Describe some of your job duties: I strength-train clients and help the WPI team with motion analyses. Whatever they need to do to help their clients be better at their chosen sport or endeavor – I’m ready to help. What is your favorite thing about working at SPO? My coworkers. They immediately made me feel like part of the team and care about helping me grow in my profession. What is your greatest accomplishment at work? My greatest accomplishments in my work have been being able to educate and build clients’ confidence in their own strength and abilities. Hometown: Sherburn, MN Hobbies: Hiking, kayaking, biking, traveling, binge-watching shows, working out, visiting family. An interesting fact about me is that more than half of my closet is thrifted! Family/Pets: Six siblings and two dogs At which store would you like to max out your credit card? Goat (all the sneakers 🙂 What is your favorite movie or TV series? New Girl What is your favorite quote, and who said it? “If you are more fortunate than others, build a longer table, not a taller fence.”- Unknown Undergraduate School: UW-Stout Graduate School: UW-River Falls Certifications: ACE Personal Trainer and Exercise Physiologist Special Interests (PT-related): Injury prevention and rehab for athletes. I was a multi-sport athlete in high school and have loved watching my younger siblings grow and improve in their sports over the years as well. I started writing them programs and fell in love with sport-specific strength and conditioning training. The detail orientation required to get these athletes to their full potential, while simultaneously working to prevent injury, became a passion of mine and led to my current position with WPI.
